If you need a laptop now, this is the best deal I have seen in a while. I still recommend waiting until November so Windows 7 is installed on the machine, but if you need a laptop now, this is a good deal.

Sellout.Woot is selling a refurbished 17" Dell for 554.99 shipped to your door. It is a 2 GHz Core 2 Duo, and 17" screen, which is huge. This machine also has a 9 cell battery for longer life, great for people who will use it away from a power source. The video card is not great but for anyone who does not play high end games on your laptop, this is a great deal.

A twofer today. Two laptop deals depending on your preferences and what you are willing to pay.

1. Sellout.woot is selling a refurbished 17" HP laptop for $704.99 shipped to your house. This machine has a T7100 Core 2 Duo processor, a screaming video card, is very upgradeable, and, wait for it, has XP installed on it :-). HP is selling the same machines refurbished themselves for only $900. Three other nice features include, it supports 4Gb of ram, it has a HDMI output to hook up to a HDTV, and it has a higher native resolution, i.e. a better screen, than most laptops. It comes with only 1GB of ram, but that is cheap and easy to upgrade, and with XP you do not really need to upgrade. You can find this bad boy here. PC World reviewed the line and liked them, you can fine the review here. Since it is Woot, it is one day or until they sell out, so move fast if you want one.
   
   
2. Office Depot has a Gateway 15" Laptop for $580 after rebate. This is a brand new T5750 Core 2 Duo laptop with 3Gb of ram. It has Vista on it but aside from that the specs are solid. You can find this machine here. The rebate expires on September 13th, so you have a bit more time with this machine, assuming they do not sell out.

I like deal number one better myself, as it has a better screen, and a ridiculous video card. I also like XP better than Vista. Deal two is better for true portability.

Hello All,

One day only, today, and in store only.

Office Depot is selling a Gateway 15.4" Core 2 Duo laptop for $480 after instant rebate and mail-in rebate. It has 3Gb of ram, 250Gb harddrive, wireless, and more. You can see it here.

The only negative thing with this laptop is Vista, and I hear it is not that bad. This machine is big and fast though, and for under $500, a great deal.

Deal of the Day - 8/29/08

Hello All,

I have kind of slacked off this week, so I will have several posts in a short period of time. Here is the first one it is for a new laptop.

Lenovo, the makers of IBMs Thinkpad line, is having an employee pricing sale until September 3rd of 2008. Discounts vary, but you can get a fast machine for under $600. The Lenovo site is here, and use passcode 536686.

I recommend getting a Core 2 Duo processor, as they are the fastest by far in the laptop processor arena. I also recommend spending the most you can on the processor, as that is next to impossible to upgrade on a laptop. Memory, hard disk, and software can all be updated, but the processor cannot. I would recommend 2Gb of ram for Vista, but I hear it works well enough with 1Gb.
