Deal of the Day - 2/16/12

Hello All,

Happy Belated Birthday to Terry and Josh.  Sorry not to hit you up on your actual birthday guys, but there were no good deals yesterday.  Today though, there is a great deal.  Woot is selling a refurbished 32GB Toshiba Thrive tablet for $324.95 shipped to your door.  That is a lot of tablet for a little bit of money. You can read an old post I wrote on it here. The price difference is due to the doubling of the space on the tablet.

You can find the deal here.

Hello All,

The woot-off is still going strong today on most of the woot sites.  If you do not know about it, you can check it out here.  In addition to that Sellout.woot is selling a Toshiba HD camcorder for $64.99 shipped to your door.  This little HD camcorder is perfect for parents and children as it is cheap enough that you will not care if it breaks, it is waterproof to 6.5 feet, and it has a HDMI out so it is easy to hook up to a TV.  You can find some reviews here, and here and you can view sample video here.  One last thing, this camcorder is $65, do not expect mind blowing HD video, but in good light and in places where it might get wet or wreck a better camcorder, it will work really well.

You can find this deal here.  I would recommend buying this for it right away as well, so you can record video when it gets to your house.

We bought a Kodak PlaySport Zx3 before we had our daughter, and it is basically the same thing.  It is waterproof to 10 feet, but outside of that they are very similar.  We bought that model over the newer Zx5 as the Zx3 has an interchangeable battery.  The Toshiba has that as well and is about $50 cheaper, so I would buy this if I were in the market.

Lastly, happy birthday to the not so little Andrew Kettner, man has this year flown by.

Deal of the Day - 1/5/12

Hello All,

The hot tech product right now is tablets, everyone wants one.  If you are everyone then today is a good day for you.  Woot is selling refurbished Toshiba Thrive tablets for $285 shipped to your door.  This is a great tablet for anyone who is not married to Apple, or just wants a good general use tablet.  A couple of highlights where it beats the 16GB iPad.

• Built in GPS
• User replaceable battery
• Full set of ports - USB, HDMI, mini USB, and SD card slot

If I did not have an iPad already I would be buying one of these tablets.  You can read a solid review here.  You can find this deal here.

As a bonus, if this you are nervous about refurbished, or do not like Toshiba, I would suggest the new Sony S Tablet.  The price just dropped to $399 and it is another solid tablet.  If you have a Sony TV or a PS3 then this is really the tablet for you.  You can read about it here, and buy it here.

Happy 3 month Birthday to my little peanut :-).

Hello All,

Two solid deals on Android tablets for today.  Woot is selling the Toshiba Thrive 16GB tablet for $294.99 shipped to your door.  This is a very solid tablet that has GPS, HDMI out, USB, and a SD card reader all built in to the unit.  For icing on the cake, this tablet will be upgraded to Android 4, which is built for tablets.

You can find this here.

If you want to buy something new, the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 32GB is on sale at both Staples and Office Depot for $299.99.  In my searches it seems that this tablet will also get updated to Android 4, but there is no official word from Lenovo.

You can find this here.

Deal of the Day - 8/29/10

Hello All,

Woot is selling 10.1" netbooks with Windows 7 for $204.99 shipped to your door.  These are refurbished models and there are five different netbooks to choose from.  This is not a shockingly good deal, but it is a solid deal.

I would pick the Gateway from this group as it has the best processor and chipset combination, it is the only one that is 64-bit and that is a big deal, and it has a largish battery.

You can find them all here, the Gateway is the last model in the listing.

If you want to compare to what I would suggest new, you can find that model here.  The Toshiba NB255-N245.  It is $280 at Amazon and is a very solid little machine.

Hello All,

NewEgg has a decent deal on a new laptop for $399. It is a 15.4" Core Duo, which is quiet good, and the machine is only $399. The Dell machine for $399 was better, but if you missed that one and need one, this one is a good deal. Here is the quick run down.

The Sweet

• 15.4" Screen
• 2.16 Ghz Core Duo
• 2GB of ram
• 160Gb Hard Drive
• DVD Burner
• Memory Card Reader

The Sour

• Shared Intel video card
• No bluetooth
• Only a 6-cell battery
• Vista is the O/S

Overall this is a sweat deal for only $399.

Find this deal here.

Hello All,

Best Buy is selling a 15" Toshiba laptop for $499. Now a $500 laptop is not a big deal, but a 15" laptop that runs an Intel core 2 duo, that is something to write about.

If you want a machine, get a Core 2 Duo. They are the best laptop processors on the market right now. Core Duo is not as good, do not buy one of them.

Here is a new quick run down.

The Sweet

• 15" Screen
• 2 Ghz Core 2 Duo
• 3GB of ram
• 200Gb Hard Drive
• Dual Layer Burner

The Sour

• Shared Intel video card
• No bluetooth
• No Firewire
• Only a 6-cell battery
• Vista is the O/S

Overall this is a pretty sweat deal, especially for only $499.

You can find this deal here.

Hello All,

The TV sales seem to be picking up, and it is about time. Newegg is selling lots of TVs on sale, but of note is this 46" Toshiba 1080p TV for $999.99. You can find it here. You can use coupon code MMCHTV50 to drop an addition $50 off the price of this TV, or any TV 42" or larger. This code works until 11:59pm on the 22nd, so act fast if you want one of these TVs.

You can find reviews of this TV here, here, and here.

I have the 32" Toshiba LCD that Newegg is selling and it is a great TV.

Deal of the Day #2 - 12/31/08

Hello All,

Newegg is selling a Toshiba 40" 1080P LCD HDTV for $750 shipped to your door.  You can find the deal here.

Use coupon code EMCBCDADC to get $50 off the current price of $799.

If you are like me and the kind of person who wants something yesterday, before I actually knew I wanted it, Best Buy has it for $749 right now as well.  You can find it here.  The sale price at Best Buy probably runs through the weekend, but I do not know that for sure.

The newegg posts are questionable, but the hard core nerds at avsforum seem to like the TV.  You can find that here.

Personally I like Toshiba's and have two myself.  I would buy this TV if our 34" Philips died.
