Deal of the Day #4 - 4/30/09

Hello All,

Four posts two days in a row, the deals are back baby! Back and better than ever. Anyway on to the deal.

Newegg is selling House of the Dead 2 & 3 for the Wii for $15.99 shipped to your door. This is a light gun shooter game, and very fun. I wasted many hours playing the original House of the Dead on my beloved DreamCast. (Side note, you can buy new Dreamcasts at Think Geek. They are awesome. Apparently so awesome they sold out, bummer.)

The ratings for the game are average, but for $16 it should offer a couple hours of fun at the least.

You can find it here.

Hello All,

REI is clearing out all of their '08 Crumpler bags. These are mainly 'old' colors. Anyway you can find a very nice 4 Million Dollar Camera bag for $30. We just bought one and the wife really likes it. We paid more though, as we are suckers. You can save a bit more money if you opt for store pick-up, as they offer free shipping to an REI store.

You can find all of the crumpler bags here.

Hello All,

Woot Sellout is selling a new Nike SasQuatch Sumo 2 Driver for $84.99 shipped to your door. I think it is worth buying by the name alone. The club is $140 at amazon so this seems to be a solid deal. Sources close to me say it sounds like a softball bat when you hit the ball, but I cannot confirm this rumor.

Hello All,

For a Mothers Day Special you need look no further. Dell is selling the Kodak M763 in blue for $50.00 plus shipping. This is a 7.2 mega pixel camera with face detection.

People that own it seem to like it, you can see that here and here.

If you do not need something for your mom, this would also be a great bar/party camera. It is very small and the face detection coupled with the big screen on the back makes it easy to make sure your pictures look good.

You can find the camera here.

Use code L$15SCF57RH3CP to get the discount.

Hello All,

Sellout.Woot is selling a refurbished 17" Dell for 554.99 shipped to your door. It is a 2 GHz Core 2 Duo, and 17" screen, which is huge. This machine also has a 9 cell battery for longer life, great for people who will use it away from a power source. The video card is not great but for anyone who does not play high end games on your laptop, this is a great deal.

You can find this here.

Hello All,

If you are looking for a cheap video recorder then today is your lucky day. Woot is selling refurbished Flip Ultra 260s for $74.99 shipped to your door. This is $25 cheaper than I could find it for new. They record for 60 minutes then you can upload them to Youtube or whatever video service you want to use, as well as watch them on the computer or hook the unit up to your TV.

People seem to like them alot. You can see this here. I would not buy one myself, but I can see why people like them. For me it is HD or I might as well use my camera, but I am bit of an HD snob, or so I have been told.

Remember Woot is one day only, or until they sell out, whichever comes first.

Hi All,

This is an interesting one, and probably not used by most, but still a good deal. For $4.95 you can upgrade any Warner brothers HD-DVD to a Blu-Ray disc. You send in the box art from the HD-DVD and they send you a Blu-Ray movie.

Check it out here.

Hello All,

Lots of deals as of late, maybe the spring thaw is hitting retailers as well. Who knows.

Woot is selling refurbished Roombas, with a virtual wall for $134.99 shipped to your door. I know two people that have them and they love them. The virtual wall sets up a barrier for the Roomba to stay within, so it does not go onto carpeting, or in a room you do not want or something.

This post seems the best for any interested parties.

Hello All,

Shirt.woot is selling random shirts cheap, for $6.66 a piece with free shipping. I bought 3 myself. The shirts are usually funny and a bit geeky. Act fast as this will sell out for sure.

As a note these shirts run small or shrink in the wash one of the two, so I would order one size larger than normal.

Deal of the Day #2 - 4/20/09

Hi All,

If you are looking to get into HD Video, then this is the deal for you. Canon is selling their HV20 HD Camcorder for $399.99. It is a Canon refurbished camcorder, sold by Canon, that uses MiniDV tapes for the recording medium. This is the best overall media as it is cheap, widely available, and the most durable over time.

It also shoots 1080p. The highest resolution that any consumer TV can currently handle.

The cheapest I could find this model for was $490, and that was used. The new model, the HV30, is $599 new, and it does not really offer any features to warrant the cost.

You can find reviews here, and here.

If you want a quick review, read this. The whole article is a bit dated, but the part on the HV20 is still spot on. Notice the price difference :-). It is funny what almost 2 years do to electronics prices.

You can find this deal here.

Hello All,

NewEgg has a decent deal on a new laptop for $399. It is a 15.4" Core Duo, which is quiet good, and the machine is only $399. The Dell machine for $399 was better, but if you missed that one and need one, this one is a good deal. Here is the quick run down.

  • 160Gb Hard Drive
  • DVD Burner
  • Memory Card Reader
The Sour
  • Shared Intel video card
  • No bluetooth
  • Only a 6-cell battery
  • Vista is the O/S
Overall this is a sweat deal for only $399.

Operating System Breakdown

Hey All,

I could not state it better than this myself. From Gizmodo:

I switched to mac first as a challenge as I had XP down and wanted a new K2 to climb. I stuck with it because I got tired of constantly patching and fixing our Xp machine.

I think Ubuntu might be there for everyday use. One of my non tech buddies also got a Dell Mini 9 and he too was worried about Linux as the OS. He loves it and thinks it might be better than OS X. I love the power and the ability to GSD that both Linux and OS X give you right from the get go. Uniq and Sort make everyones life easier.

Something to think about. The last thing about switching, you can try Ubuntu off a CD and not wreck your XP or Vista box.

Hello All,

KitchenAid is having an outlet sale on their very popular mixers.  I do not know much about these mixers but I do know that every woman I know either wants or has one and you can make flour shoot up and out of them very easily if you turn the power to high.  It makes a mess.

The Ultra Power 4.5 Quart can be found here, for $199.  This is $40 less than Amazon, which can be found here.

This would be a great mothers day gift.

Deal of the Day - 4/1/09

Hello All,

Sadly it is the last RedBox free movie rental Wednesday. You can go to any RedBox kiosk and enter

MMM401

to get a free rental. You can find the RedBox closest to you here.

Apparently they are starting to send text messages on Mondays with free rental codes. You can find out about this here. I will try it and let you know what happens.

Overall I have been happy with RedBox. The rentals are cheap and easy, there is a box close to my house, and they have a good movie selection. If you can return the movie the next day, by 9pm, it is a good deal.

Now they just need to add Blu-Ray discs for $2 a night and then they are on to something.
