Hello All,

Canon is having a St. Patrick's day sale with up to 30% off on refurbished DSLRs.  Here is a listing of the cameras.

Entry Level/Beginner
  • EOS Rebel T3 Black EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit Refurbished: $305.99
  • EOS Rebel T3i Body Refurbished: $339.99
  • EOS Rebel T3i EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit Refurbished: $407.99
  • EOS SL1 Body Refurbished: $431.99
  • EOS Rebel T4i 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit Refurbished: $489.59
  • EOS SL1 18-55 IS STM Lens Kit Refurbished: $539.99
  • EOS T5i 18-55mm IS STM Lens Kit Refurbished: $611.99
  • EOS T5i 18-135mm IS STM Lens Kit Refurbished: $755.28
 Mid Level/Prosumer
  • EOS 60D Body Refurbished: $518.39
  • EOS 60D EF-S 18-135mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished: $690.62
  • EOS 7D Body Refurbished: $839.44
  • EOS 7D EF 28-135mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished: $951.44
  • EOS 7D EF-S 18-135mm IS Lens Kit Refurbished: $1007.44
Note - the 7D cameras come with a free tutorial DVD and a 8GB memory card

You can find them here.

Many of you just want me to tell you what to buy.  That is always a complicated question that involves knowing many things
  • Your budget
  • What you want to shoot
  • How often you think you will use this
  • Do you think you will get into photography
  • Do you want to shoot video
There are more, but that is a decent starting point.  Since I cannot ask you those questions, here is a quick response.  Any of them will be great but the 60D with the 18-135 is $200 less than brand new, and the T3i and T4i are about $300 less than new prices.  I would buy one of those 3 myself.  Laura and I have bought Canon refurbished from Canon almost exclusively for the past couple of years and we are very happy with them.  They ship fast, work great, and look new, but for hundreds less.  They also have a full 1 year warranty, same as a new camera.

We bought a refurbished 7D from Canon and like it, but don't love it.  It is a great camera, but we like our 40D and 5DmII better.  I am sure if we just used it more, we would get used to it, but we are more comfortable with the older Canon interface and usage.  We picked it over the 60D because of the better construction, but we have not needed it as we are gentle on our cameras. It does feel great in your hand though, more solid and well built than the 60D.

Good luck,

John

Deal of the Day - 10/29/13

Hello All,

Is has been a while, but here are two quick deals.

First up, a canon camera with a case and memory card for under $50.  Canon is selling factory refurbished A2200 cameras for $45.49 with free shipping.  It includes a 4GB memory card and a case.  This would be a great basic camera for anyone.  I bought one of these for my mother last Christmas and she loves it.  You can read more about the camera here, here, and here.  You can purchase it here.

If you want something with a bit more speed or zoom, Canon is selling many more models here.  With the stock currently available I would buy the ELPH 500 for my own use.

Deal of the day - 8/4/11

Hi All,

PC Rush is selling a brand new Canon imageCLASS LBP-6000 Laser Printer for $60, with free shipping.  It connects via USB to your computer, but with the purchase of a $40 print server you can add this to your network and have it available to print from anywhere.  I recommend this for most people as usually the ink dries up before most people run out of ink.  We have an older HP and it is great to have it on the network and ready to go all of the time.
You can find this here, use code Woot, to get the discounted price.

Deal of the Day - 5/1/11

Happy May Day Everyone,

Just in time for mothers day, Best Buy is offering the Canon SD1400IS for $129.99.  This is the smallest point and shoot camera Canon has ever made, yet it has an impressive list of features.

  • 2.7" LCD screen - 230,000 pixels
  • 4x zoom
  • 720p HD Video recording
  • mini HDMI out
  • Image Stabilization
  • Wink Detection - Wink your eye to make it snap a picture
  • Face Detection - For focusing on faces, or setting a timer that will not go off until it detects a face in the scene.
  • Miniature Effect
  • Fish-Eye Effect
We own this camera and are very happy with it.  As a warning it is very small, so if you have large hands I would suggest you check it out in a store before pulling the trigger on a purchase.  Lastly, the SD1300IS is a better picture taking camera, but the SD1400IS has more features, and adds the 720p HD video mode.  If you plan to print large pictures from this camera, get the 1300IS.  If you want something for snapshots and maybe up to 5x7 along with videos, get this camera.

You can find reviews here, here, and here.

You can find it at Best Buy here.  I would suggest you act quickly, as I would bet this sells out.  Amazon is currently selling the same camera for $190, but they should price match eventually.

Hello All,

Canon is selling refurbished PowerShot digital cameras for 20% off from now until the 19th of February.  Canon makes some of the best and easy to use pocket cameras in the world.  I have purchased two refurbished Canons so far and they only way I knew they were refurbished was the fact that they came in different packaging than at the store.

Find the cameras here, and use code LWH1976520MZ to get the 20% discount.

Deal of the Day - 1/28/11

Hello All,

Canon is selling their factory refurbished Canon EOS XSi 12.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera in Black with the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens, for $499.99 plus shipping and tax.  If you use code 121EOS the price drops to $349.99 and you a free camera bag. You can also score free shipping if you enter code FGSHIP.

This is a highly rated camera with a 3" LCD, 3.5 shots per second burst, live view, and DIGIC III image processing.  You can find reviews here, here, and here.

There is a full 90-day warranty from Canon on all the refurbished cameras they sell.  I purchased a G9 that was refurbished from Canon.  It works great to this day, and I could not tell it was refurbished outside of the box it came in; It was not as nice as the retail boxes, but who really cares about that.  Act fast if you want this deal, it will probably be sold out by tomorrow.

Find this camera here.

Deal of the Day #4 - 11/17/09

Hello All,

Amazon is selling the Canon XSi, a 55-250 Lens, a 18-55 Lens, and a lens filter for $618.

The XSi deal from Amazon is the best by far. Best Buy has the same deal for only $900.

The only kicker to the deal is you have to buy all three things at the same time, and all from Amazon. You need to pick them in the sellers list. By default Amazon usually picks themselves as the seller, but sometimes there are cheaper sellers and it is not Amazon as the seller.

Here are all of the links to the parts for the deal.

Canon XSi Camera with kit lens

55-250 IS Lens

UV Filter

The camera and filter are sold by Amazon by default, you just need to choose Amazon from the list with the lens.

You can also do this with the T1i. I am not going to spell that all out though, as you should not buy that camera. HD Video DSLRs are not their yet. They cannot auto focus after you start recording. Unless you are going to record something that does not change its location from you and the camera, this is worthless.

Wait until the second generation, the T2i or whatever Canon will call it.

Deal of the Day #2 - 11/11/09

Hello All,

Newegg is also selling the new, and highly rated G11 for $461.99 shipped to your door. You can see samples and reviews here, here, and here.

Find it here

Use code EMCMMML25

As an added bonus, if you have a Canon, and have it registered with Canon, you can get an additional $20 back from Canon on this camera. You can find this here.

I think you might be able to get it cheaper from Best Buy, if you have a reward zone card and use the coupons that came in the mail last week, but I am not sure.

Deal of the Day - 11/3/09

Hello All,

-- Update --

This was a pricing error. The corrected price is $299. Amazon is the cheapest place for the lens that is apparently, not a pricing error.

HH Gregg has a crazy deal on a Canon lens. They are selling the Canon 55-250 IS lens for $99.99 shipped to your door.

This is a great walk about lens, and general use lens. It is a bit much zoom for most indoor situations, but for any outdoor work, this is a great lens.

I am sure they will sell out, the same lens is over $230 at Amazon.

Find this deal here.

Deal of the Day #2 - 4/20/09

Hi All,

If you are looking to get into HD Video, then this is the deal for you. Canon is selling their HV20 HD Camcorder for $399.99. It is a Canon refurbished camcorder, sold by Canon, that uses MiniDV tapes for the recording medium. This is the best overall media as it is cheap, widely available, and the most durable over time.

It also shoots 1080p. The highest resolution that any consumer TV can currently handle.

The cheapest I could find this model for was $490, and that was used. The new model, the HV30, is $599 new, and it does not really offer any features to warrant the cost.

You can find reviews here, and here.

If you want a quick review, read this. The whole article is a bit dated, but the part on the HV20 is still spot on. Notice the price difference :-). It is funny what almost 2 years do to electronics prices.

You can find this deal here.

Woo Hoo - New Canon DSLR

Hello All,

If you like Canon cameras at all you will have to check out this post over at Gizmodo. They have a pre-production Canon DSLR. Here are the highlighted specs.
  • 15.1 Megapixel
  • Shoots 720p/30 or 1080p/20 HD Video
  • Live view
  • Digic 4
  • 3" LCD
  • Only $899 with an image stabilized kit lens
This camera goes head to head with the Nikon D90, and for $150 less. Nice job Canon. If you were looking at the XSi or 40D or 50D you should wait until May if you can, this camera will likely cause significant drops on all three of those Canon models.

I think I am still going to snag a 40D when the prices fall a bit more, but this camera is very interesting. Although shooting HD seems funny with a DSLR, the fact that it is possible is pretty nice.

For more info on the camera here are the posts by DPreview and Engadget on the T1i.
