Deal of the Day #2 - 7/31/09

Hello All,

Apple is starting to clear out their refurbished iPods to make way for the new models coming in September. Here are all the iPods on special, with direct links below.

Here are 8GB current gen iTouches for 179.00.

Here are the current nanos for $99.00

Here are the current nano, in 16GB form, for $149.00

I have purchased a few Apple refurbished items, and I could not tell that they were not new, aside from the ugly packaging. They have a full 1 year warranty and support from Apple. I would not hesitate to buy something from them at all.

Deal of the Day #4 - 7/17/09

Hello All,

Video Game deals for the PS3 and Xbox360.

PSN - the built-in PS3 store is selling the following games from 7/16 - 7/23.
  • 3 on 3 NHL Arcade - $4.99
  • Brain Challenge - $4.99
  • Crash Commando - $4.99
  • Flock - $7.49
  • PixelJunk Eden - $4.99
  • Savage Moon - $4.99
  • Wipeout HD - $14.99
I have Savage Moon, it is a good tower defense game. Flock looks good, but I do not have it. Wipeout was one of the best games initially to hit the PS3, but I think it is only $5 off, not much of a sale.

If you are a 360 owner, for the rest of this week you can get Ikaruga for 400 MS points. This is half off the regular price. This is a highly rated space shooter. The nice thing about the 360 is you can download the demo and try it first.

There are two promising technologies that will be more mainstream in a couple of years, but right now you pay a huge premium for them. Those technologies are LED and OLED. Deal of the Day #3 - 7/9/09

Hello All,

Apple released updated laptops about two weeks ago, and consequently the old ones came down in price. If you do not need the speed increases or the sd card reader built in, you can get a great deal on a new, but last generation laptop.

If you work or go to the UW, you can get a 13" Macbook Pro, an iPod and, a printer all for $899 plus taxes. Find that here.

Here is a similar, although not as good, deal for people that have nothing to do with education.

It is a slippery slope, but if a 13" will not work for you, here are some Apple recertified laptops for cheap, directly from Apple.

Thanks Hans for the post idea.

Deal of the Day #2 - 7/9/09

Hello All,

Yesterday the Kindle 2's price fell from $359 to $299, a big drop and a step toward making the kindle a purchase for a wider audience. The biggest advantages of the kindle over other ebook readers is that it has free wifi anywhere in the world and you can buy new best selling books for $10. I am not much of a book reader, ADHD makes it hard to focus and all :-), but this is pretty attractive even to me. The iPhone does enough of this for me personally so I will not jump yet, but I think the kindle is the next iPod. For a while iPods were really expensive and not very big, now almost everyone has one and they are very inexpensive. You are actually weirder to not have an iPod these days than you are if you do. That point will come in a few years for the kindle.

You can find the kindle here.

Hello All,

Woot has two netbook deals today. At the main woot site they are selling a 10.1" Acer Aspire One netbook for 264.99 shipped to your door. This is not a great deal, as you can get a brand new one shipped to your door from buy.com for about $50 more. I guess it is $50 though, tough call.

Woot here

Buy here

The sister site sellout.woot is selling an Asus EEEPC for 174.99 shipped to your door. This is a brand new netbook which is a plus but it is only a 8.9" lcd which is a minus. Overall this one is slightly less appealing to me, but I do not see the appeal of a tiny screen anyway unless it is for your kids or something.

You can find this deal here.

As an adult I would buy the Dell Mini 10. I would buy this because you can install Mac OS X on it very easily, albeit questionable legally. I prefer my full sized laptop though, and do not think it is worth it to get something that small. Different strokes for different folks though.

Hello All,

Yesterday I bought beer from a liquor store. I never do this as it is just more convenient to pick it up from the grocery store. I am an idiot. Not only were the prices cheaper and the selection better, they give you free stuff.

For a limited time Miller is giving away one free Brewer Pint glasses with the purchase of an 18 pack of beer. There looks to be 5 in total. I included the first one in the set, the one I got, below. They are sweet pints, and since the beer is cheaper anyway, and you will drink it if you have it, pick some up.

Hello All,

Amazon is selling 2001: A space odyssey, for $11.49 plus shipping. It is widely regarded as a groundbreaking movie. Personally I fell asleep the first time I watched it, and I never fall asleep during movies. It is slow to start, then mediocre from there, but there are a lot of pop-culture references and I have seen worse. The whole evolution thing killed me. I get it, we used tools and evolved. It does not take thirty minutes to spell that out for us.

Not a glowing review but if you want it, you can find it here.
