Sellout.woot is selling a refurbished 8GB iPod Nano for $94.99 shipped to your door.  You can find that deal here.  For just a touch more you can get an Apple certified iPod Shuffle for $99.99 plus taxes.  The advantage this Nano has is that it has a one year warranty, versus a 90 day warranty.  You can find this deal here.

Both are good deals.  For the money I would pay $5 for nine more months of warranty.

Konami is selling all of their apps for $0.99. I cannot find anywhere that states how long this deal will last, so act quickly if you want anything.

In quickly looking at the apps, Metal Gear is the top rated app with 4 stars. Most of the rest of the apps are 3 star apps.

Apple 9/9/09 Event Wrap-up

Hello All,

Apple announced new iPod Nanos, iPod Touches, iPod shuffles, and iPod classics yesterday, along with new software for the iPhone, and new iTunes 9.

What does this mean and why am I writing about it? Excellent questions. This means that the old stock is getting cleaned out, and now is the best time to get the prior generation models for reduced prices.

Apple themselves have cut prices on the refurbished old models, you can find the details below:

iPod Nano

• 8GB - $99
• 16GB - $129

Overall not a great deal, the new ones are only $149 for 16Gb and include a video camera and FM tuner. If you are looking for a basic and cheap iPod, maybe the 8GB is for you, but I would spring for the new ones myself.

iPod Touch

• 8GB - $149
• 16GB - $199
• 32GB - $249

These are kind of good deals. The new 8GB is the same as the old one, just with reduced price to $199, so you can save $50, or 25% by buying a refurbished model. The 16GB has been dropped from the new models all together, so if you want that size you have no choice but to get one now. The 32GB is not a steal at that price. The new 32 is only $299 and has double the processor speed of the last generation. This means nothing for mp3 playing, but for email, web browsing, video game playing, it means a lot.

iPod Classic

• 120GB - $199

This is a decent deal. The new models are 40GB bigger (160GB), but cost $249. If you need that space the new one is the way to go. If I took every mp3 I have it would not fill the 120GB so saving the money seems smart, as there are no new features on the classic.

iPod Shuffle

• 1GB - $39
• 2Gb - $59

The new ones are $59 for 2GB and $79 for 4GB. The new ones are smaller, and have to be controlled by the ear buds. Depending on what you use it for, the old ones are probably a better deal, but if you just use it to run, or walk or whatever, get a new one.

Rumors for August

Hello All,

Looking back at my blog I see that my rumor postings have been, well, less than accurate. So take these with a grain of salt. I will put the rumors in highest likelihood to lowest.

1. New iPods will be hitting the market around September 7th.
   There is an Apple Event this day, so something will be coming out, and I doubt it will just be iTunes 9.
2. Snow Leopard will be coming out early, possibly the last week in August.
   It is a significant upgrade from Leopard, if you can you should get it.
3. The Sony PS3 price drop will finally be coming in September.
   The tubes are saying $300 for the unit, and possibly a slimmer version as well. I think the price drop will happen, probably not the slimmer, unfortunately.

There you have all of the tech rumors I know. Keep these in mind if you are close to buying one of the items listed, as the old models will price drop when the new ones hit, or you might get more bang for your buck if you wait a little bit.

I have purchased a few Apple refurbished items, and I could not tell that they were not new, aside from the ugly packaging. They have a full 1 year warranty and support from Apple. I would not hesitate to buy something from them at all.

Deal of the Day - 5/13/09

I am luke warm on this deal, but I am leaning toward it is a deal.

Woot is selling 30Gb Zunes for $84.99 shipped to your door. They are Microsoft recertified so they have a one year warranty from Microsoft, which is the same as new.

They have two features that go above and beyond iPods.

1. They have an FM radio built in
2. They can wirelessly sync with your computer

The forum postings mostly have people liking them too. If you have the newest firmware and software for it, it seems like a good unit, both free upgrades.

As an alternative Apple sells their own refurbished stuff on-line. You can find iPods cheap here. I have purchased a few refurbished items from Apple and they were all as good as new, and have worked for years. It is a good way to save some money.

Two quick ones. Woot is selling a two pack of iPod speakers/chargers for $105 shipped to your door. They are Polk miDocks and you can find this deal here. That is two, not one two iPod speaker docks, one for you and one for the wife. They do not work with 3G iPhones, well they do, but not for charging.

Number 2, a great one for Valentines day. Shopping.woot is selling a 5.6" Philips digital photo frame for $28 shipped. Roses cost more and do not last as long. This frame is a touch on the small side, but for the price it is hard to beat. The only real negative with this product is that it does not have any internal memory, so you need to use a SD card or USB flash drive with it the whole time. Not a deal breaker, just an FYI. Hello All,

Frys is selling the JBL OnStage II in black for $58.00 shipped to your door. This is an iPod speaker dock and charger with remote control. You can find it here. It is on sale through the 1st, but will probably sell out before that time.

I have a Logitech myself that I like a lot. The one advatage with this model over my model is that this one is more compact, which is better in most indoor environments. The advantage mine has is that it has batteries in it, so it is fully portable. You can read about the iPod dock I bought here.

Deal of the Day - 9/16/08

Hello All,

MacMall has a sale on the JBL On Stage II iPod speaker and dock system. It is on sale for $39.99, about $20 less than you can find it elsewhere. It is closer to $50 when you get it shipped to your house, but still a good deal. You can find reviews here, here, and here. In the last review note that the rating would be higher at a lower price, well $40 is a low low price; they rated it when it was over $100.

If you look on Amazon, you can find it in black for only a few dollars more if the color is a big deal to you. I just bought the Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 for the house and I really like it. It is kind of big, but it sounds really good and the remote does everything so you do not need to touch the iPod at all. The only real advantage the one I bought has is that it has batteries in it so you can use it as a boombox for your iPod for around 10 hours. The JBL is wall powered only.

You can find the JBL on sale here and if you want the Pure-Fi you can find it here. Unfortunately the Pure-Fi has jumped in price since I bought mine, and it is now $100, I got mine for $79. Given the $50 difference in price and the only real advantage being the batteries, which I will likely never use, I would get the JBL if I had to do it all over again.
